Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online

by Intuit1184 Updated a day ago

If your account statement and QuickBooks transactions are different after an account reconciliation, you can remove individual transactions from the reconciliation.

Prerequisites

Only unreconcile a transaction if you’re sure an account balance is wrong because of it. You could have reconciled it by mistake, or it might be an error you need to delete.

  • Check that the balance isn’t wrong because you entered the wrong opening, beginning, and ending balances during reconciliation.
  • Compare the transaction in QuickBooks to how it was recorded your account statement for the reconciled period. If it isn’t there, you should unreconcile it.

You may want to talk to your accountant first.

Unreconcile a transaction

You can only unreconcile one transaction at a time.

  1. In your chart of accounts, find the account with the transaction and select View register (Take me there).
  2. Find the transaction in the list. If it was reconciled, you’ll see an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column.
  3. Select the transaction.
  4. In the checkmark ✔ column, select the box with the “R” until the box is blank.
  5. Select Save.
  1. Find the account that has the reconciled transaction. Then select View register.
  2. Find the transaction. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column.
  3. Select the transaction to expand the view.
  4. In the checkmark ✔ column, select the box with the “R” until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Close the account register.

Next steps

Your accounts should now be accurate. If not, and you want to undo the entire reconciliation, talk to your accountant.
