Change the deposit bank account for QuickBooks Payments

Learn how to switch the bank account QuickBooks Payments deposits to.

You can change the bank account QuickBooks deposits payments into every time you process credit card and Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments. This bank account is also known as your payments account. You can only use one account at a time to collect payments.

Note: If you change your account after 3 PM PT, we'll deposit your payment(s) to the new account the next business day. If you processed payments before 3 PM PT, we'll put them in your old account.

Accounts you can deposit payments to

QuickBooks can put customer payments into any standard business or personal checking or savings account. You can only put payments into bank accounts based in the United States.

Note: The account must be transactional, which means QuickBooks can put money in and take fees out when needed, without limitations.

Accounts you can't deposit to

QuickBooks can't deposit payments into these types of accounts. These will cause issues, rejections, or delays:

  • PayPal
  • Lines of credit
  • Mutual fund accounts
  • Government accounts
  • Credit card checks
  • Routing numbers used for wire transfers
  • Paper draft accounts
  • Any non-transactional account


You can't change the account from the mobile app or GoPayment. You must be in a web browser.

Update standard deposit account

Link a bank account for standard funding events (non-instant deposit). Just add your bank account and routing number.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks mobile app, QuickBooks Money or GoPayment in a web browser.
  2. Go to Settings Settings gear icon.and then select Account and settings.
  3. Select the Payments tab. In the Deposits section next to Standard Deposits, select Change bank.
  4. Select Add new bank account.
  5. Enter the account and routing number of the bank account you want to change to and then select Save.
  6. Find the new bank account from the list and select Verify.
  7. Enter the two small amounts we have deposited to the new bank account.
  8. Review the bank account info and complete your request.

Update instant deposit account

Link a debit card or eligible bank account for instant deposits. If you have a QuickBooks Checking account, your debit card is already linked.

  1. Select Settings ⚙ and then Account and settings.
  2. Select Payments and go to Deposit accounts.
  3. Select Change to edit your instant deposit info.
    Note: If you switch from your personal debit card to your QuickBooks Checking debit card, select the 0% fee option.
  4. Select Save and then Done.

QuickBooks will start depositing customer payments from online invoices and other sources into the new account.

This doesn't change the way QuickBooks categorizes payments on your chart of accounts. This changes the bank account QuickBooks deposits payments into. Here's how to change the way QuickBooks categorizes customer payments on your chart of accounts.

For QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Point of Sale, you can make changes in the Merchant Service Center.

  1. Sign in to the Merchant Service Center.
  2. Select Account and then Account Profile.
  3. In the Deposit Account Information section, select Edit.
  4. Fill out the New bank account.
  5. Enter your Routing number.
  6. Enter the Account Number you want to change to. Enter it again to Confirm Account Number.
  7. Make sure the name in the Account Holder/Doing Business As matches the bank account owner's name exactly.
  8. Select the Reason for this account change and then select Submit.

Note: If you see a Routing Number Invalid error, reach out to your bank to make sure it's right.
