Step 1: Prepare QuickBooks and your company file

Make sure to update QuickBooks to the latest release and back up your company file before you proceed. These steps help you avoid data loss and discrepancies.

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to File, then select Switch to Single-user mode.
Note: If you see Switch to Multi-user mode, proceed to Step 3.
  3. Select Company, then select My Company.
  4. If you haven’t yet, select Manage Your Account to sign in to your Intuit account.
Note: You can also create one or recover your user ID or password if you need to.
  5. Void or delete pending online payments or checks.
  6. Add and match previously-downloaded transactions.

Note: If you want to continue to pay your bills in QuickBooks Desktop, follow these steps to set up QuickBooks Bill Pay.

Step 2: Turn off Bank Feeds

Turn off Bank Feeds for the bank account you need to reconnect to QuickBooks. This helps you avoid discrepancies.

Note: You’ll have to turn it back on later.

If you encounter any issues while you turn off Bank Feeds, here’s how you can fix them.

Follow these steps to reconnect the bank account you disconnected earlier to QuickBooks.

  7. Select Close.

Note: Some banks require you to authenticate outside QuickBooks and might open an external browser. After you sign in, go back to QuickBooks.
