Import existing bank rules in QuickBooks Online

If you set up bank rules on a QuickBooks Online company file, you can export them, then import them to a new company file. This can save you time and create consistency. 

To import existing bank rules, follow these steps.

Export rules

  • Sign in to the company file you want to export the bank rules from.

  • Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Accounting, then Rules (Take me there).

  • Select the New rule ▼ dropdown and then Export rules.

  • Save the export file in Excel.

  • Sign out.

Import rules

  • Sign in to the company file you want to import the rules into.

  • Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Accounting, then Rules (Take me there).

  • Select the New rule ▼ dropdown and then Import rules.

  • Select Browse and find the Excel file you exported.

  • Select the rules and details you want to import.

  • Follow the prompts to finish the import.
