Download and use the QuickBooks app on your computer

Learn how to download, use, and install the QuickBooks Online app on your computer.

If you have QuickBooks Online, you can access and manage your company file(s) with the QuickBooks Online app. With this app, you can:

Stay signed in for up to 6 months, so you don’t have to enter your user ID and password every time.
Open multiple companies in individual tab groups, or multiple pages in individual tabs for each company.
Split your screen between two tasks to work on them at the same time.
Use keyboard shortcuts.
Use a navigation map that’s similar to what you’re used to in QuickBooks Desktop.

Prerequisites

If you switched from QuickBooks Desktop, move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online first.

Download and open the app on your computer

Download the app.
- For Windows, download the app here.
- For Mac, download the app here.
Install the app on your computer.
When the installation finishes, an app shortcut appears on your desktop. Select the shortcut to open the app if it doesn't open automatically.
Sign in with your Intuit user ID and password.
If you have multiple QuickBooks Online companies, select the company you want to open.
The first time you use the app, you can pick which layout to use:
- If you switched from QuickBooks Desktop and want a similar view, select Yes, let’s go.
- If you’re already familiar with QuickBooks Online, select No, I already know how to use QuickBooks Online.

Work on multiple pages, companies, or tasks at the same time

You can view multiple companies and pages at once in the app.

Each company has its own tab group in the app. To open an additional company, select the + icon next to the current company tab group and select the company you want from the list.
To open an additional page in the same company, select the + icon next to the current page tab.
To work on two tasks simultaneously, select Split screen , then select the second task you want to work on. The screen you have selected is outlined in a green border.

Resolve issues with the app

If you encounter any problems with the app, close and reopen it. You can also uninstall and re-install it, or contact us for further assistance.
