Learn how to transfer your billing from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to QuickBooks so you can sign up for add-ons.

If your QuickBooks Online subscription is billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, transfer your billing to QuickBooks before you sign up for add-ons such as Intuit QuickBooks Workforce (payroll), QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, or Intuit Intelligence chat. You can start the transfer on the web or in the QuickBooks mobile app.

Note: This article applies to QuickBooks Online subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store in the US. If QuickBooks already bills you directly, you don’t need to transfer anything — you can sign up for add-ons right away.

Before you begin

  • Know where your subscription is billed. If you signed up in the mobile app, your billing is usually with the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Make sure you can sign in to the device or account where your subscription is billed, so you can cancel the app store subscription after the transfer.

  • Have a payment method ready, such as a credit or debit card.

Web instructions

  1. For the add-on you want to purchase, go to one of the following pages in product:

  2. Enter your payment information to transfer your existing subscription to QuickBooks. You won't be charged until your next billing date.

Mobile instructions

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app and go to Menu Image of the Menu icon..

  2. Find the Payroll or Intuit Intelligence Chat card, then select Learn more.

  3. Enter your payment information to transfer your existing subscription to QuickBooks. You won't be charged until your next billing date.

Important:

  • You must cancel your app store subscription before your next billing date to avoid being charged by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  • Payroll setup happens on the web. The QuickBooks mobile app doesn't support setting up Payroll today, so you'll finish setup in a browser after you transfer your billing.

Note: You can transfer your billing in the mobile app, but payroll setup finishes on the web. After you transfer, sign in to QuickBooks Online in a web browser to complete your payroll setup.

Result

Your billing date and plan stay the same — QuickBooks just bills you directly instead of the app store. Your access to QuickBooks on the web and in the mobile app isn’t interrupted.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign up for QuickBooks Online Payroll directly in the mobile app?
No. Payroll setup happens in a web browser, not in the QuickBooks Online mobile app. If you're billed through an app store, transfer your billing first, then finish signing up for Payroll at quickbooks.intuit.com. Once Payroll is set up, you can still use the mobile app for your other QuickBooks tasks, and your employees can use the QuickBooks Workforce app to view pay stubs, W-2s, and time off from their phones.

Can I still use QuickBooks on my desktop and mobile devices?
Yes, your access to QuickBooks and the QuickBooks mobile app won't be interrupted. Once you transfer, you'll be billed directly through QuickBooks instead of the app store.

When will I be charged for QuickBooks after transferring from the app store?
Your billing date and plan stay the same. You won't be charged for QuickBooks on the day you transfer — your next charge will be on your usual billing date.

What if I forget to cancel?
We'll send you push notifications to remind you. If you transfer to QuickBooks billing and don't cancel in the app store, you may get billed twice. Contact Apple or Google for a refund if this happens.

Will I lose my QuickBooks data?
No, your data is safe. If you cancel in the app store but don't finish transferring to QuickBooks billing, we'll keep your data for 1 year.
