Learn how to get QuickBooks Payments so you can process customer payments in QuickBooks.

Process payments in QuickBooks by credit card, debit, ACH bank transfer, PayPal, and Venmo. QuickBooks auto-categorizes each payment on your chart of accounts for you.

Important: Your payments account auto-connects to the product you sign up from. If you signed up for QuickBooks Payments in a different QuickBooks product, link that account instead of creating a new one. Connect a Payments account to QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop.

Sign up through QuickBooks Online

  1. Sign in.
  2. Apply for Payments.
  1. Select Settings ⚙, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Select Payments, then select Learn more in the QuickBooks Payment section. 
  3. Select Set up Payments.

The Payments signup window displays three sections:

  1. In the Business section, select Start. Fill out the form and tell us about your business. When you're done, select Next.
  2. In the Owner/Proprietor section, select Start. Fill out the form and then select Next.
  3. In the Payment deposit section, select Start. You have the option to get a QuickBooks Checking account OR select a different bank account for your customer payments. Get more info about QuickBooks Checking.
    • If you choose to get a QuickBooks Checking account, ensure the name on the debit card is correct.
    • If you choose a different bank account, select Add and search for your bank. Enter the sign-in info you use for your bank, then select Connect.
  4. When you're finished with all of the sections, select Get Set Up.

You'll get an email about your enrollment in a few business days. If approved, you can order things like a mobile card reader directly from the email.

Sign up through QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Go to Customers and select Add Credit Card Processing.
  2. Follow the on-screen steps and fill out the form to apply.

Sign up on the web

Apply directly on the QuickBooks Payments website.
