Register and install a QuickBooks Desktop student trial

Current students at accredited US educational institutions can register for a five-month trial of QuickBooks Desktop. This trial software is available for Windows operating systems only.

Register for the trial

1. Visit the Intuit Education Program website.
2. Select Register.
3. Under "Choose your software," select Looking for QuickBooks Desktop.
4. Select Students, then fill out the registration form.
5. Select Verify and Continue.

Note: If the "Welcome to Intuit Education" page displays, skip to the "Activate the license" section below. If not, proceed to the "Verify eligibility" section below.

Verify eligibility

If SheerID requires further documentation to register for the trial, you must submit a document that clearly shows your name and specific affiliation.

• Check details: Ensure your full name and affiliation match the verification section exactly. Pay attention to nicknames, maiden names, spaces, spelling, and special characters.
• Edit information: If your name or affiliation is incorrect, select the link to enter your information again.
• Wait for confirmation: If your account is not processed immediately after you upload documents, wait for a confirmation email.

Note: If you do not receive an email, resubmit a request for assistance through SheerID.

Install QuickBooks Desktop

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you can download and install the software using the information provided in the confirmation email.

1. Open the email from Intuit Verification and select the link to download a .exe file. If you did not receive an email, contact us.
2. Select Download.
3. Close any open programs, then open the Setup_QuickBook.exe file.
4. Select Yes to allow QuickBooks to make changes to your computer.
5. Select Next on the InstallShield Wizard window.
6. Select Next, then review the License Agreement.
7. Select the I accept the terms of the license agreement checkbox, then select Next.
8. Enter the license and product numbers provided in the email, then select Next.
9. Select Express (recommended), then select Next.
10. Select Install.
11. Once the install is finished, select Open QuickBooks.
12. Select OK.

Activate the license

You must activate the software within 30 days of installation:

1. Open QuickBooks and select Activate.
2. Log in to your Intuit Account:
   • Existing users: Select Sign in.
   • New users: Enter your information and select Create Account. Ensure you use a secure password.
3. Enter the required customer account information (marked with an asterisk *).
4. Select Next.
5. When the confirmation window appears, print the page or save it as a PDF for your records.
