Assign account numbers to your customers
While there is no official account number field, you can add an account number to a field displayed in QuickBooks Online or your customer’s invoices.
- Select Sales, then Customers (Take me there).
- Select a customer to open the customer page, then select Edit.
- Add a unique account number to the beginning of the customer’s name in the appropriate field. QuickBooks won't keep you from using the same account number twice.
- To sort by account number in QuickBooks, add a unique account number to Customer display name. Then, remove the number from Name to print on checks.
- If you want customers to see the account number, enter “Account number:” and add a unique account number in the first line of Street address.
- Select Save.
