Set Up 2-Factor Authentication with SMS
by Intuit• Updated about 9 hours ago
Set up 2-factor authentication to enhance your account's security. With 2-factor authentication enabled in Mailchimp, you need your login credentials and a one-time passcode to log in to your account. This passcode is sent via SMS or generated by an authenticator app.
In this article, you'll learn how to use 2-factor authentication with SMS.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you begin this process.
- If you prefer, you can use an authenticator app on your mobile device for your 2-factor authentication.
- When an Owner or Admin enables 2-factor authentication for their login, all additional users with access to the account will also be required to set up 2-factor authentication the next time they log in. To learn more about user levels, check out Manage User Levels in Your Account.

Set up SMS 2-factor authentication
In most cases, you’ll set up 2-factor authentication when you create a Mailchimp account. You’ll automatically be directed to the Account security page where you can choose your 2-factor authentication method.
To set up 2-factor authentication with SMS, follow these steps.
- Open your Account security page.
- In the 2-factor authentication section, select the SMS radio button and click Next.
- In the Please select a country drop-down, choose the country associated with your mobile phone number.
Enter your phone number and click Get code.
Check your mobile device for a text message. Enter the code you received in the Enter 6-digit code field and click Enable.
That’s it! Your 2-factor authentication with SMS has been configured. Now, each time you log in, you'll be prompted to enter your Mailchimp password and verification code.
Log in with SMS 2-factor authentication
To log in using SMS 2-factor authentication, follow these steps.
- Enter your Mailchimp username and password on the login screen, and click Log In.
- Click Send Verification Code.
- Check your mobile device and type the six-digit passcode into the Verification code field in Mailchimp. Click Log In.
Don't share your login credentials or multi-factor authentication code with anyone; our employees will never ask for the code.
Enable remember me options
By default, Mailchimp requires you to log in and complete 2-factor authentication every time you return to your account after leaving it.
Enable specific Mailchimp cookies and select the remember me options when you log in to reduce the number of times you need to complete these processes. To keep your account secure, we recommend only doing this on your personal, trusted devices.
To enable remember me options, follow these steps.
- Click your profile icon and choose Cookie Preferences.
- Use the toggle to enable Performance and Functionality Cookies.
- Click Confirm My Choices.
- Next time you log in, check the boxes next to Keep me logged in and Skip this for two weeks.
If you clear your browser cookies, you’ll need to repeat these steps to enable this functionality again. You’ll always be asked to log in and complete 2-factor authentication if you access Mailchimp on a different or unknown device.
Reconfigure 2-factor authentication
Once you’ve set up 2-factor authentication, you won’t be able to remove or disable it. If you need to update your phone number or switch your authentication method, you can reconfigure your 2-factor authentication settings.
From your Account security page, click Reconfigure and follow the prompts to update your authentication phone number. Or, click Switch to authenticator app to switch your authentication method, and follow the prompts to Set Up a 2-Factor Authentication App at Login.
