Register for your payroll state account numbers

Learn how to get your state account numbers for payroll.

Every state requires you to have account numbers to pay and file your state payroll taxes.

Additionally, you may also need local tax account numbers. If you’re new to doing payroll, or setting up an employee in a new state, you can apply for your state and local tax account numbers in Intuit QuickBooks Workforce. We partner with CorpNet. Fees apply. 

Here’s how to get started. 

If you’re setting up Intuit QuickBooks Workforce for the first time

  1. Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Payroll, then Overview (Take me there).
  2. From Let us handle your taxes, select Start or Edit on Enter your tax info. 
  3. Select Next until you get to your state tax window.
  4. Select Get an account number. 
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to gather the info needed and apply for your account number.  If you have any questions, contact CorpNet at 1-888-449-2638. 
  6. Repeat steps 3-4 for each state account number you need. 

If you’re already using Intuit QuickBooks Workforce and are adding a new employee in a new state

  1. Add your new employee. 
  2. Go to Settings, then select Payroll Settings. 
  3. From the new state, select Edit. 
  4. Select Get your account number. 
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to gather the info needed and apply for your account number.  If you have any questions, contact CorpNet at 1-888-449-2638.
