Set week start day and payroll periods in QuickBooks Time

Learn how to change your week start day and payroll periods in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Time.

QuickBooks Time settings are moving to QuickBooks Online so you no longer need to navigate to your settings to many different places. As part of this journey, as we move our settings over, you’ll be able to update your settings in both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Time.

Change your Week Start Day

QuickBooks Online

This setting affects the Manual Time Card, the Schedule Add-on, and some Payroll Period settings.

  • Go to Settings ⚙, then Account and settings.

  • Select Time.

  • From the Time tracking section, select Edit ✎

  • From the First day of work week , select a day you want.

  • Select Done.

QuickBooks Time

This setting affects the Weekly time entries, Weekly Time Activities, Schedule and Payroll period.

Set the Payroll Period

QuickBooks Time

These settings define the periods for approvals, time off, and time exported to other services like QuickBooks, Xero, or Gusto.

  • Go to Company Settings.

  • Go to Payroll & Overtime, then select Pay Schedule.

  • Select the Pay Schedule you want, and select Save.

Payroll Period options

  • Weekly: Every week based on a recent closing date.

  • Every 2 weeks: Every two weeks based on a recent closing date.

  • Twice a month: Twice a month, on specific days of the month.

  • Every 4 weeks: Every four weeks (28 days) based on a recent closing date.

  • Monthly: Every month, on a specific day of the month.

  • Custom: Minimum of two custom pay period end dates.
