Hello there, jspeedy889.
I'll make sure that manually entering bank transactions into QuickBooks Online from the American Express savings account goes well.
To start with, you need to know the date of the oldest existing transaction currently in the account. This is done to avoid entering duplicate data.
Here's how:
- Click the Gear icon ⚙ and select Chart of accounts.
- Find the bank or credit card account you want to upload the transactions into.
- Click the View register link.
- Find and write down the date of the oldest transaction. Usually, the oldest transaction is the opening balance.
Once done, get the entries from your bank. Please follow the steps below.
- Sign in to your bank or credit card's website.
- Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your entries to your computer. Every financial institution has different steps.
- Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
- Download your data. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.
After that, you have to review the file from your bank. Ensure it's in the correct format before you upload it. Please know that the maximum file size is 350 KB. If it is too big, compress the date range and download transactions in smaller batches.
Then, you can now start uploading your bank transactions. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Transactions menu and then choose Bank transactions.
- Select Upload transactions.
- Choose Drag and drop or select files and select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then, click Continue.
- From the QuickBooks account dropdown arrow, select the account you want to upload the transactions. Then, select Continue.
You can read this article for further details: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

You can use MT Online or one of the converter tools (e.g csv2qbo @ $60 one time license) as a workaround.

I had the same question. I tried to do this last year and because I had two cards with different numbers (my wife shares the account) it really messed things up. Any suggestions to make it work?
