Employees and payroll
Good morning, lsw5.
Thanks for joining us here in the Community. I want to make sure you're able to run payroll in your QuickBooks Desktop account.
Getting kicked out of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll after an update often means there is a corrupted update, security issue, or multi-user conflict. The good news is this is typically a quick fix. Here are few solution options to try:
- Run as Administrator: Right-click the QBDT icon and select "Run as administrator".
- Restart & Single-User Mode: Close QBDT, restart your computer, then open QuickBooks and immediately go to File > Switch to Single-User Mode before accessing payroll.
- Re-verify Service Key: Go to Employees > My Payroll Service > Manage Service Key, click Edit, re-enter your service key, and click Finish (uncheck "Open Payroll Setup").
The following articles offer additional info about troubleshooting QBDT Payroll errors:
- Troubleshoot Payroll Service Server Error or Payroll Connection Error
- Fix payroll errors: The file you specified cannot be opened and The file exists
Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to lend a hand.
