Software Upgrade from 2010
Will Quickbooks 2024 open my 2010 company file?
I have had to purchase a new computer and cannot install Quickbooks 2010 on the new system - it will not activate and is no longer supported
If I upgrade the software will my current company file open on the new 2024 version?
I have had my accountant try and open the file and they are having difficulties in opening the file?

Thanks for posting here, @pelli69.
Let me help you install your 2010 company file once you upgrade to the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024 version.
If you have a portable copy of the file, you can open your 2010 company file in QBDT 2024. If you don't have it or it doesn't work, you can perform the 3-year interval bridging process to update the file to make it compatible with the 2024 version.
First off, you'll need to get trial versions of QBDT 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2022, then 2024 to achieve this.
You can follow these steps once you reach in 2024:
- Ensure all users sign out of your company file.
- Open your 2024 QBDT.
- Select Open or Restore Company from the File tab.
- Click Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), choose to Restore a backup copy.
- Find and select your company file. Then, Open.
- Sign in to your company file as the admin user.
- Select Update now.
- Once finished, click Done.
Feel free to read this article for more info: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
If you can't open the file, I recommend contacting customer support. They can further help you update your company file so you can access it in the 2024 version.
Additionally, you can read this article to learn more about what company files are compatible with QBDT: Company file compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop when upgrading.
For future reference, you can visit this article to resolve errors when entering product and license numbers in QBDT: Fix activation, license, and product numbers issues.
Let me know if you have additional questions about updating your company file by leaving a reply below. We'll be willing to lend a hand. Keep safe, and have a good day.

No the file worked perfectly in 2010. But due to computer needing replacement and I cannot activate 2010 on the new system. 2024 version will not open the 2010 company file
