Hello there, @buildxp.
I can help you convert or upgrade your company file to a newer version.
First, you can create a backup of the current file. It protects your data in case of system failure or file corruption. Here's how:
- Go to the File menu.
- Choose Back Up Company, then Create Local Backup.
- Click Next, then choose where you want to save your backup copy.
Once you've saved your backup of the company file, you can now install QuickBooks Desktop 2021. Make sure to select the correct region, product, and version.
After the installer has been downloaded, it's time to run it. Then, you can restore your file to the new location. Here's how:
- In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
- Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
- Select Local Backup and then Next.
- Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
- Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
- Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
- Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
- Select Update Now to start the upgrade.
- When QuickBooks finishes, select Done.
Then, update the software to the latest release so you'll always have the latest features and fixes.
Note: After the file has been updated, you won't be able to use it in the lower version.
For more details about upgrading QuickBooks Desktop to a newer version, you can read these resources:

Comment below if you have follow-up questions about converting a file to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop. You can also mention which QBD year version you have. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!

Hello Buildxp, thanks for coming back to us, so because you have a very old version/file, your best option would be to take out/ upgrade and set up a new file on the latest version of desktop we have out and enter opening balances and start again. As there is no way to mirgate your date over as the file is to old.

Thank you for the info
That will not be a way I would go, far to many customers and data to input again.
I would have thought that there would be a step by step version upgrade from one version to another that would in the end run on Windows ten.
After all like i say it is ONLY used for creating a INVOICE and not vat and banking etc
Have got this correct if i get 2021 then I can import my data etc into that if I get qbd team to convert the backup of my version
If not then how much will all this cost me to upgrade?
