Invoices and statements
Was wondering if there is a way to change the invoices and statements to reflect a patients name rather than the invoice number?
In the dental lab we use patients names rather that invoice numbers and would like for the statements to show names or both name and invoice number so the Dr. know who the invoice was for.
Is it also possible to set up the invoices so I can search based on the name rather than the invoice number?

Great to see you here today, @Dennis gray,
Welcome and thanks for visiting our forums. I can share some insights on how to modify your invoice numbers in QuickBooks Desktop.
You have the option to manually edit the Invoice # field so you can add your customer's name. However, you can only add up to 11 characters for the invoice number. Please see screenshot below:
Once you add the custom invoice number, this will automatically be displayed on your customer statements. To search for the transaction, follow the steps below:
- Click the Edit menu then choose Find. You can also press Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
- Go to the Simple tab.
- Click the Transaction Type drop-down and select transaction you want to search.
- In the Invoice # field, type in the exact custom number you created earlier.
- Click Find.
- To open a transaction, select the transaction you want to see and click the Go To button.
- If you want to search for different transactions, click Reset.
That should do it, @Dennis gray. Please let me know if you have any questions about QuickBooks. I'm here to help whenever you need further assistance. All the best!
