Welcome and thanks for visiting our forums. I can share some insights on how to modify your invoice numbers in QuickBooks Desktop.

You have the option to manually edit the Invoice # field so you can add your customer's name. However, you can only add up to 11 characters for the invoice number. Please see screenshot below:

Once you add the custom invoice number, this will automatically be displayed on your customer statements. To search for the transaction, follow the steps below:

1. Click the Edit menu then choose Find. You can also press Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
2. Go to the Simple tab.
3. Click the Transaction Type drop-down and select transaction you want to search.
4. In the Invoice # field, type in the exact custom number you created earlier.
5. Click Find.
6. To open a transaction, select the transaction you want to see and click the Go To button.
7. If you want to search for different transactions, click Reset.
