Good morning, @JayBlake.
Thanks for reaching back out to the Community.
There isn't a time frame of when this will be included in your account as a feature. However, our Product Developers are reviewing every request to try to add them into the system.
Our Blog site is where you can keep up with what's new in the product.
I'm only a reply away if you have any other questions. Have an awesome day and weekend ahead!

Is there an update to this feature request. I urgently need to add custom fields to the product database that can be included on the purchase order line item detail. I need fields like manufacturer, catalog number, color, etc. as searchable fields for look up when building a PO. Is this under development?

I'd like to provide you with some information about custom fields in QBO, jmuller63.
Currently, custom fields can be added to sales transactions, customers, and vendors. However, this feature is not available for products and services at the moment.
These articles provide more information about this feature:
- Add Custom Fields to Sales Forms and Purchase Orders in QuickBooks Online
- Create and Edit Custom Fields in QuickBooks Online Advanced
I understand the usefulness of this feature for putting additional information to your products and services. It would be a great idea to share your feedback with our engineers regarding this matter. Customer input, like yours, is valuable and often plays a role in shaping new features and enhancements in our products.
Here's how you can send it in QBO:
- Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
- Type in your feedback and suggestions about custom fields in QBO.
- Click Next to submit them.
Here are some articles that can offer further guidance when your working with sales items in QuickBooks Online:
- Remove a Product or Service in QuickBooks Online
- Change Product and Service Item Types in QuickBooks Online

@jenop2
Custom fields can only be added in sales to transactions, customers, and transactions. Using the same feature for products are services is still not available at the moment.
Adding custom fields to items so that they can be included on purchased orders and sales transactions has been available in QuickBooks Desktop for perhaps 20 years. @jenop2 , you might have mentioned that to the customer.
I wonder why QB Online doesn't have this ability? I guess this is just yet another way Desktop is better than Online.

Consider having a 3rd party inventory management app to integrate with QBO or switching to QB Desktop Premier/Enterprise.

Hello,
I've seen my question asked by others and each time someone responds with all the ways you can add custom fields, AT THE HEADER LEVEL, to INVOICES. This is not my use case. In the electrical contracting field, vendors use catalog numbers for light fixtures and SKU numbers for other devices. I need to be able to add these custom fields to PURCHASE ORDERS at the line item level in Quickbooks Online.
I appreciate the feedback from those who have indicated this feature exists in the desktop version.

Came here for the same issue. I have a feeling QBO for some reason is reluctant on this addition to QBO vs Desktop from a backend data management standpoint (line item feature would add more data management processes needed on the backend). I tried to recommend the same thing for Tags years ago. However, this clearly is needed by customers.
