Inventory for services that change a part to multiple different parts of assemblies

We use QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Manufacturing and Wholesale 24.0. We have a brass item that we bring in raw. That item is then sent out to one vendor for them to cut it in various ways. One is a bell, one is a beer tap, another is a bottle opener. They send it back to us transformed.

Sometimes we also send those items that are transformed to a second vendor to be powder coated.

These are in as a service right now. We ended up setting up the initial system having the raw brass item in the build for all these different build assembles that go on to make a final product. Then we have the services listed as well in the build along with another inventory part that goes into the assembly and packaging.

Tracking this way doesn't allow me to know how many bottle openers or bells I can make because it's counting all the raw brass items as the same. Is there a way to transform them when we send it out to the new part they become for the build so I can know how many bottle openers I can make for example?

For this we would send out the raw brass item to Vendor A, The inventory transfers to them. Then they return to us cut as a bottle opener. Our inventory should then receive back the bottle opener instead of the raw brass item. Then the build will have the bottle opener piece as part of the assembly.

I hope I explained this well as I am taking over our inventory at our company but am not well versed in the accounting side of it beyond basic work with it. Our Accountant also is unaware of how to best do this. The only idea we can think of is setting up both raw parts and adjusting inventory on receipt but that seems less than ideal.

Thanks,

Joe
