Hello there, @jes63.
There are possible reasons why you've got the error message upon accessing the files on your new computer. And I'd be happy to share them with you and help you fix this error.
Here are the reasons that cause the error:
- The file is saved in a protected location such as the root of C:// Drive or Program Files of a Windows Vista, 7 or 8.
- The file is located on a restricted location.
- Folder permissions are not set up properly.
- The folder where the company file is saved is damaged.
To get this fixed, let's first download and install the Quickbooks Tools Hub. Then, run the QuickBooks File Doctor to check if its company file issue related. Let me guide you how.
- Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file.
- Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
- Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
- When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
- From the tool hub, select the Company File Issues tab.
- Select Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
- In QuickBooks File Doctor, choose your company file from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see your file, hit Browse and search to find your file.
- Press Check your file and then Continue.
- Enter your QuickBooks admin password and click Next.
If it doesn't work, you can set QuickBooks to Run as Administrator. Here's how:
- Close your QuickBooks Desktop, then right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon and select Properties.
- Select Run this program as administrator under the Compatibility tab.
- Click Apply, then select OK.
If the issue persists, please feel free to read this article for more troubleshooting steps to fix the error: Message: You do not have sufficient permissions to the specified folder.
Please let me know how it goes. I'll be around to help if you have any other concerns. Have a good one.
