- Click Go and select Applications.
- Double-click the QuickBooks 20XX Server.app icon.
- If you need, share the file.
- If the file’s listed under NOT SHARED, click the file then Start Sharing.
- If the file’s not listed, select + to add the file.
If everything is fine, verify if the file-sharing permissions are set correctly on the host computer.
- Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
- Click the Sharing icon.
- Select the File Sharing checkbox.
- Add the folder where the company file is stored in to Shared Folders.
- Click + under the Shared Folder column.
- Browse to the folder where the company file is located, then select Add.
- Under the Users column, make sure the permission is set to Read and Write for Everyone or just the specific users who will be using QuickBooks.
Additionally, your hardware can sometimes block the communication between QuickBooks for Mac and QuickBooks Server. To test, you can follow these steps and see if it fix the issue:
- Unplug the ethernet cable or if you’re using wireless internet, turn off your Wi-Fi.
- Reboot your computer.
- Open QuickBooks, then turn on multi-user mode.
