Reactivate a deleted job or customer in QuickBooks Time

Learn how to reactivate a deleted job or customer in QuickBooks Time. 

Note: If you did delete the job or customer, don't create a replacement job or customer before following the steps below. If you've already created a replacement job or need help with this procedure, please contact QuickBooks Time Support.

Reactivate a deleted job or customer

Non-integrated accounts

To reactivate the job or customer, the name and formatting must match the original exactly. If you need to check the spelling and formatting, you can locate a past timesheet tracked against that code in a report or in time entries.

Import the deleted customer

  1. In QuickBooks Time, select Jobs or Customers.
  2. Select More, then select Import/Export (.csv).
  3. Select the Export tab, then select Existing Jobs.csv or Existing Customers.csv.
  4. Add the deleted job or customer into the spreadsheet, then select Save As.
  5. Select a location, make sure the File Format is .csv, and select Save.
  6. Back in QuickBooks Time, in the Import Jobs or Import Customers window, select the Import tab.
  7. Select Choose File, select the .csv file, and then Open.
  8. Leave the first 2 boxes selected under Options, and then select Import. The job code will be restored.

Integrated accounts

If your account is integrated with QuickBooks, Reckon, or Xero, customers or jobs can be restored using the integration. You can either reactivate the customer or job in that software or, if it is already active, make a temporary change to the name of the job or customer in that software (to update the last modified date). Then, run a sync or import to bring it back into QuickBooks Time.

Unassign job or customer

Instead of deleting a job or customer, we recommend you unassign the code from your team members. It will remain in your jobs or customers list, but your team members won’t see it when they track time.

  1. In QuickBooks Time, select Jobs or Customers.
  2. Select Editnext to the job or customer you need to unassign.
  3. Untick Assign to all team members, then select Save.
