A couple got separated in mid 2023, both my clients. The wife has been contributing to the spousal RRSP because she has much higher income. She forgot to change it after separation. So now she has two RRSP contribution for 2023 (Mar-Dec 2023 and Jan-Feb 2023). Now when I uncouple the return, the software does not accept the spousal RRSP contribution. Is there a solution to it?
Hi,
After uncoupling the files, go to the spousal information section on INFO page, it should be blank. Put a date of birth there and it should work.
Wow. It works. Now just out of curiosity, what is the logic behind it? I put the ex spouse DOB, but for that matter any DOB works.
I also want to THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my question during the busy last two weeks of the season.
The DOB is important because you can not contribute if you are 71 years or older
