Document send and receive for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Accountant, including Pro Tax

by Intuit1 Updated 9 months ago

QuickBooks Online Accountant firms and their QuickBooks Online clients can now send and receive documents to and from each other with a few clicks.

From your client list, select a client. You will then be given the option to add a note or a document. Find out more about using shared documents here.

In addition, there is an access point in Pro Tax for the QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Accountant shared documents folder. QuickBooks Online clients can upload their documents into the shared folder, and the firm can access them in the return.

Firm view

To access documents from Pro Tax, open a return and then click on Documents. A Document window will open offering several options:

  • In Return tab: Only the firm can view, upload or download documents.
  • In QBO tab: Clients and the firm can view, upload or download documents.
  • Docs for CRA submission: Use to submit T106, T1135, and T1134 forms. Learn more: Using the Foreign Revenue Reporting Management System (FRRMS).
  • Transmitted: Documents which have been submitted to the CRA.

If a client has not sent a file, you can make the request directly from Pro Tax by selecting Create client request from your In QBO tab.

The client will receive an email notification, and will be able to upload documents to the shared folder. You can also send documents to your clients through this window.

When you select Share at the bottom of the Create a request box, the client will notified by text or email, depending on the notification settings when they signed up for QuickBooks Online.

Inside QuickBooks Online Accountant, select My accountant to review the request. Selecting the request will give the option to both respond and attach a document.
