XML file error being caused by use of special or missing characters

When downloading T4s or RL1 forms you may encounter an error message related to special or missing characters:

"Something's not right. Let's fix that. Looks like your file has an error or two. Might be an issue with special characters in the employee profile fields. Remove those and try again."


This message means that there is either a special character or characters, such as a comma, exclamation point, or ampersand in one of the employee fields, or there is incomplete information provided (for example, missing digits in a phone number).


Correct the error by removing the special character(s) or providing the missing information in the file or in product before uploading to the CRA.
