Overview
If you use QuickBooks Online for managing your finances, you may encounter errors or issues while downloading transactions from your bank. These errors can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to resolve them. In this article, we'll walk you through what to do if you encounter a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Step 1: Check your internet connection
Before you do anything else, make sure that your internet connection is working properly. If you're having trouble downloading transactions, it's possible that your internet connection is slow or unstable.
To check your internet connection, try visiting other websites or applications that require internet access. If those sites are slow or not loading properly, then your internet connection may be the problem.
Step 2: Check your credential entries
Try manually entering credentials instead of copy and paste or using saved credentials.
Step 3: Check the bank feed status page
If you aren't able to resolve your issue using the steps on this page, check our Bank Feed Status page to see if it's an ongoing issue.
If the error you're experiencing appears on that page, it's an issue that we're aware of and working to resolve. No action is needed on your part. Once we have fixed the error, you’ll be able to successfully complete your task.
Step 4: Verify your bank account information
If your internet connection is working fine, the next step is to verify that your bank account information is correct. Sometimes, errors occur when the bank account information in QuickBooks does not match the information on file with your bank.
To verify your bank account information, go to the Banking tab and select the account that's causing the problem. Then, click on the pencil icon to edit the account information.
Verify that the bank account number, routing number, and other information is correct. If you need to make changes, do so and save the changes.
Step 5: Update your bank connection
If you've verified that your bank account information is correct and you're still having trouble downloading transactions, the next step is to update your bank connection. This can help resolve any issues related to connectivity or outdated bank information.
To update your bank connection, go to the Banking tab and select the account that's causing the problem. Then, click on the Update button in the upper right corner. Follow the prompts to update your bank connection. This may require you to log in to your bank's website or enter additional information.
Step 6: Manually download transactions
If you're having trouble downloading transactions automatically, you can download them manually from your bank's website. To do this, go to your bank's website and log in to your account. Then, download your transactions in a compatible file format, such as .csv or .qbo. Once you have the file, you can import it into QuickBooks.
