Fix banking error 324 in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed

If the error you're experiencing appears on that page, we're aware of the issue and are working to fix it. You don't need to call Support to report or resolve it.



Learn what to do if you see banking error 324 in QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Error 324 means QuickBooks can't find the account you set up when it tries to connect to your bank or credit card's website. This may be because:

  • Your bank or credit card company changed the account or moved it to a new server.
  • You changed the account name or other info on your bank or credit card company's website.
  • Your bank or credit card company issued a new account or credit card.
  • You closed your bank or credit card account.
  • You have multiple accounts with the bank that has the same name.

Here's how to fix this error so you can keep downloading transactions into QuickBooks.



If you have multiple accounts with the bank that has the same name

Rename one of the accounts at the bank site so that it is unique. For example, if you have two accounts named "XYZ" rename one to be "XYZ 2".

In QuickBooks Online

To make the bank account’s name unique, you can rename it with the following steps.

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select the bank account that you want to rename, then select the pencil icon ✎.
  3. Select Edit account info.
  4. In the Name field, update the name of the account. Then, select Save and Close.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed

  1. Go to Settings ⚙.
  2. In the Transactions column, select Manage accounts.
  3. Select the pencil icon ✎ beside the account that you want to rename.
  4. Enter the new name of the account in the field.


Update and check your connection in QuickBooks

In QuickBooks Online

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  3. Select Update.
  4. If you still see the error, look for a banner on the Banking page. Select Check connections link and follow the steps to fix the issue.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. Select the profile Settings gear icon. icon and then Manage accounts.
  3. Select Refresh all.
  4. If you still see the error, go to the Transactions menu. Look for a banner. Select the Check connections link and follow the steps to fix the issue.
Important: If the connected account disappears after you follow the Check Connections link, select (?) Help, and then Contact us. We'll check your accounts to see what's causing these issues.


If you have a new account number, or got a new credit card

You have a few options:

If you want to keep your old account in QuickBooks:

  1. Follow the steps to disconnect the account.
  2. Follow the steps to connect or link the new account to your chart of accounts.

If you want to start a new account in QuickBooks:

  1. Follow the steps to create a new account in QuickBooks Online.
  2. Follow the steps to connect the new account to your chart of accounts.
  3. Follow the steps to disconnect the old account.
  4. Follow the steps to merge the old and the new accounts.
