T3 return e-filing for Pro Tax

About filing a return

Until 2017, T3s were required to be paper filed, though slips and the summary could be transmitted by XML. starting with 2017 year ends, the T3 could be filed by way of XML filing. Starting with 2021 tax years, preparers will be able to electronically file T3s with regular EFILE credentials.

Note: not all T3 returns are eligible for electronic filing through Pro Tax. To see if your return is eligible, open the T3Efile form to see if your return is facing any exclusions.

How to file the T3 return from Pro Tax

1. Select the return ready to be filed and click Transmit.
2. Once you click on Transmit, you’ll be presented with the option to choose which return you will want to transmit:

• T3 trust return
• T3M return
• T3RCA return

3. When the return is accepted, you will see the following window:

Understanding the window

Note some of the items listed on the confirmation/declined window:

• The Confirmation number we get from CRA if the return has been accepted. This number does not show if the return was declined.
• Confirmation of receipt contains a time stamp indicating when the return was filed.
• JSON: A file that is generated and stored locally in the computer. This file is useful if we need to escalate and investigate a critical error with the return.

There is no way to retrieve the confirmation window after it is closed. The confirmation number will be saved to the return and is located in the Filing section of Info.
