Overview

Bank error 108 in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed can occur for a number of reasons, like incorrect bank account information, browser issues, firewall or antivirus issues, or issues with your bank's website. By following the step-by-step instructions provided in this article, you can resolve the issue and ensure the accuracy of your financial records.

If you see error 108, don’t worry. It may only mean there's a message for you from your bank or credit card on their website. Messages can block the connection to QuickBooks.

It’s still important to resolve this error as soon as possible to ensure the accuracy of your financial records. In this article, we'll provide step-by-step instructions on how to fix bank error 108 in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed.

In this article, you'll learn how to:

Step 1: Check for known issues

Sometimes, banking errors can occur because of a known issue we're experiencing with a certain bank or credit card company. Visit our Bank feed status page to see if the error you're experiencing is listed there. Even if it is, you should still try the steps below to make sure something else isn't causing the issue.

Step 2: Verify your bank or credit card's website status

Sometimes, error 108 can occur due to issues on your bank or credit card's website. Verify the website status by checking their social media pages, or contacting their customer support. If there is an issue with the website, wait for it to be resolved and try accessing your account information again.

Step 3: Review messages on your bank or credit card's website

  1. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website. These should be the same credentials you use to connect the account to QuickBooks. If you use something different, disconnect the account from QuickBooks and use the credentials for your bank's website to reconnect it.
  2. Check for any updates, messages, or notifications.
  3. If you need to take any action, the message should give you specific steps.
  4. After you review and address all the messages, sign back into QuickBooks.

If you don’t see notifications on your bank's website but still see the error, reach out to your bank. You may not be able to see certain types of messages that can cause error 108.

Step 4: Update your bank connections in QuickBooks

In QuickBooks Online

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  3. Select Update.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. Select the gear icon and then select Bank accounts.
  3. Select Refresh all.

Step 5: Verify your bank account information

The next step is to verify your bank account information in QuickBooks. Go to the Banking tab and select the bank account that is experiencing the error. Select the Edit option to update your account information, such as the account number, routing number, and other details.

Step 6: Clear your browser cache

Bank Error 108 can also occur due to a browser issue. Clearing your browser cache can resolve the issue. To do this, go to your browser settings and select Clear Browsing Data. Make sure to select All Time as the time range to clear your entire browsing history. If you need help doing this, search the internet for instructions on how to do this with your specific browser.

Step 7: Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus

Your firewall or antivirus program may be preventing QuickBooks from accessing your bank account information. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus programs, and try to access your bank account information again. If the error is resolved, add QuickBooks as an exception in your firewall and antivirus programs, then turn them back on. For information on how to create an exception, visit your firewall or antivirus manufacturer’s website.

Step 8: Contact QuickBooks support

If you have tried all the above steps and error 108 still persists in QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed, contact QuickBooks support for further assistance.
