DEEMED RESIDENT

OMG... So it was told, don't do a non-resident tax return if their status was 3 or 5, Profile is waiting for updates.  I did 6's. First of all, why do I have to wait till April 1st to do non-resident tax returns, why does it take so long to update forms for Profile.

Second of all, my status 6's, some of them are wrong, on the CRA condensed version.  I was told by Profile that I have to update version 4 and everything will be fine.  What does that mean?  Do I have to open every return I did and the CRA version will then be correct or do I have to redo all my returns in order for the CRA version to be correct?  What is happening?  Well income tax deducted, off their cheques, is showing on my tax returns but not on CRA condensed version returns. So, their returns are coming back, not with their huge refunds, but now it says they owe money.  CRA says they can't fix them so I have to do adjustments but I don't know how to "read" the CRA condensed versions. I don't know if I'm asking a question, or venting.

DEEMED RESIDENT

Hi,

as posted by CRA on the EFILE news and program updates on March 28 https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/digital-services-businesses/efile-electr...
Effective for the 2023 tax year, electronic filers will be able to submit T1 income tax and benefit returns through EFILE for the following individuals, subject to some exclusions:

Emigrants;
Non-residents who are disposing of a taxable Canadian property, filing under section 116 of the ITA.

We completed and released these updates as soon as CRA's certification process for these returns was available this year.
Though it was hoped certain deemed resident returns would be eligible this year as well, all deemed residents continue to remain an EFILE exclusion for this tax year for all EFILE software.
All of these return types are still eligible for paper filing as usual, with a T1 General – Condensed return, though they are not eligible for 2D Bar Code so it is expected that one will not print.

If you think there is an issue with the condensed form of your return, please call our helpline 1-800-452-9970.

Thanks and Regards
