I'm hoping someone can give me some advice about the eligible educator school supply credit. I had a teacher that qualified for this, but accidently efiled the return without overriding the credit. Now, the return is in limbo, and therefore the refund is too. Should I do a T1Adj for this? Remove the amount and resubmit? Or would that just make the situation more complex?
I feel that Profile should not have allowed this to be filed. I also had to remove the Return of Fuel Charge Proceeds to Farmers on a different return. Profile should at least provide information on all of the necessary overrides to e

i just received an email from cra stating that both of these credits are in limbo due to the fact that royal assent has not been done yet. it said that you should discuss the matter with your client before you send the returns. due to the fact that you already sent the return cra will probably take the credit away for now and assess the return. you could tell your client this fact but it will still take time. i would not do an adjustment because it would just delay things longer. just my thoughts on it. hope it helps a little. good luck.

People need to READ what CRA sends to them. The CREDIT is still available and NOT Profiles problem to tell you to overide it--I have now gotten THREE emails from EFILE TED saying that anybody applying for these credits will NOT have their returns processed until the bill gets Royal Assent and there is no date in the future for this to happen. I have told my clients that WHEN and IF it gets approved we will do the adjustment at that time rather than hold up their return.
Since it is now filed and in "process" you CANNOT adjust and re-submit
Since already submitted CANNOT change anything and the Emails I got said they WOULD NOT be processed until Royal Assent is given and will just sit there
Reminder - Legislative changes
As the 2022 filing season comes to a close, we would like to provide you a reminder about important information that may impact tax return preparation and processing for a subset of your clients, with respect to two refundable tax credits included in Bill C-8, Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021:
As mentioned previously, although your certified tax software may perform the calculations, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) cannot process claims for the above refundable tax credits until supporting legislation has been enacted. Therefore, if your clients plan to claim any of these credits, processing cannot be finalized until Royal Assent has been received. Conversations should be had with your clients on the options available to them to meet their individual needs. Ultimately, the choice of claiming these credits or not lies with the client.
Yes, I thought that they would probably just disallow the credit, but I wanted to make sure that there wasn't something else I could do. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question. Thanks.
good luck. good old government.
