Hi, I received an email Feb 4/21 that CRA will now be doing MFA for many of the activities we do as tax preparers-Represent a Client, Auto Fill my Return, Express NOA etc. I am wondering how this is going to affect our workflow as we will have to wait for a one time code each time we wish to perform these activities. This one time code is being sent by text or phone call-wow, this seems like it is going to be messy...
This goes beyond messy, it is a HUGE security risk for all staff to have their cell phones on hand awaiting a code.
We talked to CRA about registering one cell number for all our Rep ID in the office and they said that would be worse and likely lock us out of all REP ID's as it would look as if one person was trying to access all the ID's. They also said there would be no way to know which code goes to which return, if multiple people tried to access CRA at the same time.
Initially they had an option to opt out, but when we called Monday morning after some of us got the message to register, they told us that because they had so many requests the first hour it opened up that CRA has removed this option and no one could opt out now.
CRA is making it more and more difficult for us, they do not want people using tax preparers, they would prefer they either make the mistakes that will cost them in penalties and interest or miss deductions they are unaware of.
Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community
This is a big change for preparers: more information can be found at the CRA website here
Hope this helps
