Hi,
There seems to be a new question on the info page that needs to be answered. "Did the taxpayer electronically sign the T183?". How do we answer this question? When preparing the tax return they have not signed yet. Was this question required by the CRA? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Emily

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community
The electronic signature question was required by CRA; there are two scenarios:
1) If No, ProFile populates the date. This is similar to prior years when the taxpayer signed during an office visit.
2) If Yes, the fields from date and time must be entered by the taxpayer when signing the T183. The preparer then enters the date and time from the received signed copy of the T183. Once the T183 information is entered from the electronically signed copy of the T183, the warnings will disappear from the T183 in the ProFile tax file.
Hope this helps
If the form will be signed electronically, I'll answer the question "Yes". If, for some reasons, T183 is later signed in person, I'll just change the answer to "No" before e-filing the return.
I also noticed that when the question "Did the taxpayer electronically sign the T183?" is answered "Yes", then the date and the time of signature revert to blank. So, I'll have to ask such clients to sign, put the date and the time. Then, I think, I will have to manually enter the date & time from the signed form. If anyone else has other comments/ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Jack_Canada has it right. CRA requires a date and time for electronically signed T183s. The taxpayer can sign and enter a date and time on the T183. When the signed document is received, the preparer enters the date and time on the T183 in the tax file to match the signed document. This will remove warnings from the T183.
If the question is answered no, then only the signing date is required so ProFile populates that field.
Hope this helps
There is an issue with this function, in that we are unable to update the date on the T183 without unticking the 'Did the taxpayer electronically sign the T183?' box. Support has not been able to assist. They advise to clear the form in order to enter the date, which unticks the box.

Entering the time signed on the T183 will cause a lot of confusion for those getting electronic signatures.
Most personal taxpayers have a hard time figuring out how to sign electronically.
Now they have have to enter the time in 24 hour format.
Good luck getting the time signed correct on the first try!
Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community
For electronically signed T183 for 2020 T1, CRA requires the date and time entered into ProFile. The taxpayer is required to sign, date and enter the time on the T183. When the preparer receives the signed and dated T183, they enter the date and time from the signed T183 into ProFile before electronic filing the T1.
Hope this helps
