I have a client (resident) who has a non-resident spouse (who earns about $30K each year). My client has some investment income and rental income but usually less than basic personal amount. Profile gives a refund of $75 from provincial tax credit but CRA always disallows this credit without proper explanation. Even if I call CRA, no one knows the answer. Anyone knows any details?
If you are entering the spouse's income in Profile, then the credit should not be calculating. I would look on the form where the $75 is being calculated (for BC it is the BC479) and make sure the spouse's income is showing up there. If it is, there should be no credit available. In BC, it is not available if the family income is over $25,500.
if you mark the spouse as non resident on info page (spouse province of residence), you will not get the credit. and you should get something like this picture
Depending of the income of the client
