Stupid warning message

On the T1 information page for a client, I have chose that the taxpayer authorizes me, as a representative, but I also indicate that I want the CRA to contact the client (not the preparer) pre-assessment or post-assessment.

 

This results in a Profile warning message saying that "Authorizing the preparer to represent the taxpayer when the CRA requests any supporting document for pre-assessment or post-assessment reviews is only allowed if "contact preparer by mail" is selected. Please review."

 

Um.... why?

 

I wish to be able to represent my client when the need arises. So I want the CRA to contact my client first, and if they feel it necessary, then I will get involved. I do not have to screen every communication that the CRA sends to my client.

 

So it makes sense for me to be authorized, but also for the CRA to contact my client first.

 

I suggest removal of this dumb warming message.

I fully agree and this is NEW with PROFILE ONLY. it also only has to be PRE. you can leave POST assesment to client and it will go but would just be better to have PROFILE correct it as it worked fine last year

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community

Product development has indicated the warning was requested by CRA and is required for certification. This has no affect on a level 1 or 2 authorization you have on file with CRA. So if you already have an authorization answer no to this question. Then CRA can contact the taxpayer with all correspondence.

If you answer yes, this information is submitted with the T1 filing and CRA expects to be able to contact the prepare for at least pre-assessment requests.
