Notice of Change (NOC) definition and codes

Notice of Change (NOC)

A Notice of Change (NOC) is a payroll return that Intuit receives from the employees or vendors financial institutions when the banking information for their direct deposit is incorrect, but close enough for the financial institution to recognize. This means that the employee or vendor receives the money for their paycheck, but Intuit is given a warning, which states that the employee or vendor information needs to be updated.
If Intuit continues processing payrolls for this employee or vendor with the same banking information, the financial institution can report Intuit to the Automated Clearing House (ACH) for a National ACH Association (NACHA) violation. Intuit can be forced to pay substantial fines and even lose the ability to process ACH transactions if enough violations occur.
Once Intuit received the Notice of Change from the receiving bank, the bank account information for that employee/vendor is automatically updated and an email is sent out to the Payroll contact listed on the account.
