SOLVEDby QuickBooks6Updated January 05, 2024

Learn how to update the Financial Institutions list in QuickBooks Desktop.

Choose which way to update your Financial Institutions Directory (FiDir) to make sure you have the latest info from your financial institution.

Before you begin:

Solution 1: Automatic update

QuickBooks processes the update for you.

  1. Go to Banking, select Bank Feeds, then Bank Feeds Center.
  2. Select Refresh account(s) or choose Sync all for this bank from the dropdown.

Solution 2: Manual update

If you need to manually update, make sure you update each file location for every QuickBooks version you use.

  1. Find the fidir.txt file on your system.
    Product File Location
    Enterprise C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions XXXX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
    Pro/Premier C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks XXXX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
  2. Right-click fidir.txt, then select Rename.
  3. Change .txt to .old, then click outside the field to save the name change.
  4. Select your QuickBooks version to get the latest file.
  5. Save the file to your desktop.
  6. Go to your Desktop, right-click the fidir.txt file, then select Copy.
  7. Open the filist folder.
  8. Right-click anywhere in the folder, then Paste.
  9. Close and open QuickBooks again.

Your Financial Institution list is now up-to-date.
