Change your business name, contact info, or EIN in QuickBooks Online

by Intuit147 Updated 4 weeks ago

Learn how to change your business name, contact info, or Employer Identification Number (EIN) in QuickBooks Online.

The info your customers see on sales forms and invoices depends on what you set up in your account. It’s also your internal info on file with Intuit. If you need to make changes, you can always edit them in the settings.

Change your business info

Keep your business info up to date so customers can identify and contact your business. There are also features in QuickBooks that use your business info to work, so make sure it's accurate.

Note: In some scenarios, it might be best to add another company instead of changing your business info. This keeps your books distinct for tax purposes. This is likely best if you’ll use a different EIN for filing.

  1. Go to Settings Settings gear icon. and select Account and settings.
  2. Select Company, then ✎ Edit the section you want to update.
Note: If you can’t edit the Company name, Legal name, EIN, or you see Error -7000, edit your company info in your payments and payroll accounts first.
  3. Select Save, then Done.

There are also several places you need to update after making changes to your business info. QuickBooks can’t automatically update everything, so you have to manually update them:

Update your default sales form message

When you update your company name, make sure you also update your default sales form message. Otherwise, it’ll continue to use the previous name.

Update your company info for different locations

If you use location tracking, and have different business names for different locations, update your custom sales forms by location.

Update your Payments and Payroll company info

If you have QuickBooks Payments or Payroll services, you’ll need to update your company name and tax info in those accounts separately. Update your payroll services info first, then your QuickBooks Payment info.
