Add or Import Contacts on Mobile
by Intuit•3• Updated 4 weeks ago
If you meet a new customer or business contact while you’re out and about, you can save their information with Mailchimp’s mobile app.
In this article, you’ll learn how to add contacts to your Mailchimp audience from your mobile device. You'll also learn how to add contacts from a file and undo an import.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you start.
- You can only add contacts who have email addresses and have given you permission to email them.
- For ways to import contacts from your computer, check out Import Contacts to Mailchimp.
- If a contact has multiple email addresses, we will only import the first one.
Add a contact manually
You can add a contact manually from the Audience menu or tap the plus icon to access the option in the Quick Actions menu.
To manually add a subscribed contact from the Audience menu, follow these steps.
Open Mailchimp’s mobile app on your phone or tablet, and tap the Audience tab.
Tap Add contacts.
Tap Add manually.
Type the contact’s information, and tap Add (iOS) or the checkmark (Android) to confirm.
That’s it! You’ve manually added a subscribed contact to your audience.
Scan a contact
When you’re at a conference or other networking event, add contacts on the go by scanning the text on a business card, a sign-in sheet, or even a handwritten note. You can capture a contact’s email address, first name, last name, and phone number. You can do this from the Audience menu or tap the plus icon to access the option in the Quick Actions menu.
To scan a contact from the Audience menu, follow these steps.
Open Mailchimp's mobile app on your phone or tablet, and tap the Audience tab.
Tap Add contacts.
Tap Scan Contact.
Use the contact scanner to take a photo of the contact details you want to add to your audience.
You can only scan one contact at a time. If your handwritten note or sign-in sheet contains multiple contacts, we'll only scan the first.
- Verify the contact details and tap Add to confirm.
That's it! You've added a new subscribed contact to your audience.
Import contacts from your device
If you have contacts in your mobile phone who you want to add to your audience, use the Mailchimp app to import them in bulk.
You can import contacts from the Audience menu or tap the plus icon to access the option in the Quick Actions menu.
To import contacts from the Audience menu, follow these steps.
Open Mailchimp’s mobile app on your phone or tablet, and tap the Audience tab.
Tap Add contacts.
Tap Import from device.
Select the contacts you want to add.

Optional: If you want to add your imported contacts to groups, navigate to the GROUPS section and select the group that applies.

Contacts can also be shared with the Mailchimp mobile app from your device’s address book. Locate the contact you want to add to your Mailchimp audience, then tap Share Contact. In the Mailchimp app, confirm the contact details then tap Add.
That’s it! Your mobile contacts will be added to your audience as subscribed contacts.
Import contacts from a file
You can import contacts from a CSV file directly to your Mailchimp audience from the Audience menu or tap the plus sign icon to access the option in the Quick Actions menu.

We’ll match some automatically, but you may need to manually choose the audience field type. Any unmatched columns will not be imported.
- Tap Import when you’re ready.
Nice job! The contacts in your file will be added to your audience as subscribed contacts. You’ll receive an email notifying you when the import is complete.
Undo a contact import
You can undo a contact import at any time. When you undo an import, you’ll only remove contacts who were added by that import. You won't remove contacts who were in your audience before the import, and you won't change any data for existing contacts.
To undo a contact import, follow these steps.
Tap the Audience tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Import History.
Find the import you want to undo and tap the back arrow.
- In the pop-up modal, press Touch and Hold to undo import.
After you complete the action, the import will display an Undone timestamp on the Import History page.
All Set! Contacts from your import will be removed.
