Connect or Disconnect Mailchimp for Patreon
by Intuit• Updated 4 weeks ago
Mailchimp for Patreon lets you sync your Patreon subscribers with your Mailchimp audiences. With this integration, you can transfer the information you’ve collected from subscribers of various levels on Patreon to your Mailchimp audiences where you can further communicate with them.
In this article, you’ll learn how to connect and disconnect Mailchimp for Patreon.
Before you start
- This integration requires a Patreon account.
- It might be helpful to familiarize yourself with Mailchimp contacts and audiences.
How it works
The Mailchimp Patreon integration syncs contacts who have subscribed to your Patreon to the Mailchimp audience of your choosing. Once you’ve chosen the Mailchimp audience you want to sync with, your Patreon tiers automatically map to Mailchimp as tags associated with the audience. The data fields you collect from your Patreon subscribers can map to your Mailchimp audience merge fields.
Automatic Tags
The Mailchimp Patreon integration includes automatic tagging behavior for contacts synced from your Patreon to your selected Mailchimp audience based on common actions in Patreon.
Patreon Action | Mailchimp Behavior (Automatic) |
---|---|
Pledge Created | Mailchimp tags the contact with their Patreon membership tier using the format Patreon Tier: XYZ . For example, if you have Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers in your Patreon, when you sync your contacts from Patreon, Mailchimp tags each contact appropriately as Patreon Tier: Bronze , Patreon Tier: Silver , or Patreon Tier: Gold .Additionally, we log an event on the contact profile (using the Events endpoint of the Mailchimp Marketing API.) |
Pledge Updated/Changed | Mailchimp removes the contact’s existing pledge tag and adds the updated tag for the new membership tier. |
Pledge Canceled or Card Declined | Mailchimp removes the existing tag and adds the tag Patreon Tier: ex-patron . We do not mark the customer as unsubscribed. If a contact cancels their pledge, Mailchimp updates the tag with the next sync. In the case of a declined card, the tag update happens after the Patreon billing cycle flags the card issue (typically, this happens on the first of the month.) Additionally, we log an event on the contact profile (using the Events endpoint of the Mailchimp Marketing API.) |
Sending the right information to the right tier
Using the tags added to your contacts during your Patreon syncs, you can send information to each specific tier, or combination of tiers. To learn more about using tags to send to a specific part of your audience, check out Send to tags.

We recommend mapping the Mailchimp Merge Field Campaign Lifetime Revenue to the Campaign Lifetime Support Cents Patreon Data Field in order to sync the total amount of money a contact has pledged. This automatically updates each Patreon billing cycle.
If there is no data field you want to map to a merge field, you can click the trash can icon to delete the mapping. Once you complete the mappings, click Finish.
That’s it! Your Patreon data is synced to your selected Mailchimp audience.
