Get instant receipt reminders for credit card purchases

by Intuit•1• Updated 2 weeks ago

When you use your Mastercard, you can get instant receipt reminders to help make sure you never lose a receipt again. Once you snap a photo of your receipt, QuickBooks takes care of the rest of the bookkeeping for you.

How it works

You'll get a link texted to your phone within seconds of making a purchase on your Mastercard. Tap the link to automatically open your camera app and take a photo of the receipt. No sign in required.

A new expense will be added to your books with the receipt photo you took attached to it. QuickBooks automatically extracts the info from the receipt so you don't have to manually enter anything. Later, when the transaction comes in from your connected account, QuickBooks automatically matches the transaction to the expense it created for you, and your accounting is done for you.

Set up receipt reminders

Here's where this feature is available, and which cards you can use with it. More regions and cards may be available in the future.

  • Available countries:
    • United States
  • Supported Mastercard types:
    • Consumer credit cards
    • Business credit cards
    • Business debit cards
  • Card types not supported:
    • Consumer debit cards
    • Prepaid cards
  • Mastercard issuers not supported:
    • Wells Fargo
    • Goldman Sachs (Apple credit card)

First, make sure you have a Mastercard that will work with this feature (see "Cards and regions" section). For best results, make sure your card is already connected to your QuickBooks account to get transactions into QuickBooks.

  1. Select the Get receipt reminders button.
  2. Consent to the terms to use this feature with the phone number shown. This feature only works for the phone number associated with the QuickBooks account.
  3. Complete the verification and sign in steps for enrolling your card.
  4. The final setup page asks you to select these options and details:
    • Choose the account QuickBooks uses for this credit card. It will usually have a name that matches the card issuer and the last four digits of the credit card number (for example, "Mastercard 4211").
If this card isn't connected to QuickBooks to receive transactions yet, you can create a new account in your chart of accounts for it here. Be sure to connect it to QuickBooks when you're finished adding it for receipt reminders.
    • (Optional) Choose to only receive notifications for transactions over $75.

Upload a receipt from a receipt reminder

  1. Once you've set up your card for receipt reminders, you'll start getting text notifications within seconds of any purchase on your card.
  2. Tap the link you receive. It will open your camera app.
Note: If more than 24 hours have passed since you got the reminder, you may need to enter your QuickBooks sign in info for security purposes.
  3. Take a clear photo of the receipt. You can also choose an existing photo you already have on your phone.

QuickBooks will receive the photo and create an expense from it. We'll use AI to analyze the receipt and choose an appropriate category for you. The expense is automatically recorded.

Later, when QuickBooks gets the record of the transaction from your credit card, you'll see it as usual on your Bank Transactions page. Since you sent the receipt already, QuickBooks will automatically find the receipt you uploaded and the expense it created from it. It will appear in your bank transactions table as a match between these records. Select Match to complete your bookkeeping for the transaction.
