by Intuit• Updated 1 week ago
Learn how to set up Michigan’s secondary unemployment wage base in QuickBooks Payroll.
The state of Michigan has reduced the unemployment taxable wage base from $9,500 to $9,000 per employee. However, only businesses in good standing with the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) qualify for the lower wage base. If you are subject to the higher wage base, follow these steps.

The February 2025 release includes a new secondary MI UI wage base tax item: Michigan UI Wage Base Increase.
Note: If you are subject to the higher wage base, you'll have two MI UI wage base items: one for $9,000 and one for $9,500. The second wage base tax item of $9,500 will only tax the $500 difference.
