Set up timesheet rounding in QuickBooks Time

Learn how to set up timesheet rounding in QuickBooks Time to round team members' clock-in and clock-out times up, down, or to the nearest increment of 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

Notes:

• Only account admins can set up timesheet rounding.
• Timesheet rounding only works when team members clock in and out, or switch jobs. Manual time entries and edited time won’t be affected.
• If you use QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Online Payroll, timesheet rounding automatically installs and is defaulted to the nearest minute.
• When deciding whether or not to round hours, we recommend you consult a labor or employment attorney in your country. If your company is in the US, you also might want to check the US Dept of Labor's website and your state's labor laws.

Install the timesheet rounding add-on

1. In QuickBooks Time, select Feature Add-ons, then select Manage Add-ons.
2. Find Timesheet Rounding, and select Install.
3. In the Timesheet Rounding Preferences window, make your selections, and select Save.
   • Note: We recommend you round both clock-in and clock-out times the same direction, not in opposing directions.

Change your timesheet rounding preferences

1. In QuickBooks Time, select Feature Add-ons.
2. Select Timesheet Rounding, make your changes, and select Save.

Timesheet rounding examples

• Round up in 15 minute increments: 4:16 PM would round to 4:30 PM.
• Round down in 15 minute increments: 4:16 PM would round to 4:15 PM.
• Round to nearest in 15 minute increments: 4:16 PM would round to 4:15 PM.

If you use timesheet rounding, the time clock may show negative minutes worked.

• For example, if timesheets round to the nearest 15 minutes and the team member clocked in at 1:03 AM, the clock-in time would round up to 1:15 AM. This would cause the time clock to display -12mins worked. If the team member clocks out at 9:03 AM, the clock-out time would be rounded up to 9:15 AM, resulting in a full eight-hour timesheet.
