Switch between Business and Accountant view in QuickBooks Online

Learn more about each view and how to switch between them.

In QuickBooks Online, there are two user views: Business view and Accountant view. You can switch between each view any time to focus on the work that matters most to you.

If you're brand new to accounting, or want to mainly focus on tracking sales and bills, use Business view. If you're an accounting pro or need complete control over things like your chart of accounts or journal entries, use Accountant view. Use the view that best suits your needs so you get the best experience.

The main difference between Business and Accountant view is how features are set up. Business view generally offers more guidance.

Features and button names are different in each view. However, the actions are identical in most cases.

  • In Business view, we simplified the button and menu names. Instead of using accounting language, you'll see task-focused labels. For example, "Make a sale" in Business view is the same action as "Sales Receipt" in Accountant view.
  • In Accountant view, buttons and menus use standard accounting language. This view lets you access journal entries and checks. It's also the view you're used to seeing if you've used QuickBooks Online for a while.
