Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021

The following changes, improvements, and fixes were made to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

This notice is provided as a convenience for our customers and is not intended to supplement, modify, or extend the Intuit software license agreement between Intuit and the customer for any Intuit product or service.

Product updates can be downloaded through the program or from the download page.

Release 13 (R13) 3/15/23

What’s important about Release 13?

American Express IDXAdd support for American Express IDX connections 
Export to QuickBooks OnlineImproved export to QuickBooks Online
Calendar and RemindersUpdated Mac OS Calendar and Reminders support for Mac OS version 12 (Monterey) and Mac OS version 13 (Ventura).
Search in RegisterFixed a problem where typing in the search field in a register was not accepting keyboard input correctly.
1099/1096 tax formsUpdated 1099/1096 tax for layouts for 2022 tax year.
Print formsFixed an issue where printing multiple forms would sometimes give an error that a print job was already in progress.
Data EntryFixed an issue that could sometimes cause a crash when entering a transaction in a new account.
Form templatesFixed a crash that could sometimes occur trying to customize a form template.
Statement ChargesFixed an issue with keyboard focus when entering Statement Charges.
Reports and Graphs•Fixed an issue where the Job Profitability Detail report would sometimes not
open correctly on Mac OS 13 Ventura.
• Fixed an issue where nontaxable totals across reports could become
inconsistent across reports.
• Fixed an issue where the Billable column header wasn't displaying correctly
on Mac OS 13 Ventura.
• Fixed an issue that could cause QuickBooks to hang in QuickZoom after
changing graph dates.
Advanced FindFixed a crash that could sometimes occur trying to use Advanced Find.
Dropdown menusFixed unexpected behavior with dropdown menus in Mac OS 13 Ventura.
Merchant ServicesFixed an issue that would cause QuickBooks to crash when opening the Record Merchant Deposit window.
File operationsUpgraded files will now open without error after saving.
Multi User modeQuickBooks Server app no longer closes when a company file is shared.
Online BankingBank of America customers no longer see the error "One or more of your accounts had a problem downloading your transactions." during the Bank Feeds setup.
EmailFixed an issue where messages fail to send with certain versions of Outlook.
Intuit account• You can change the Intuit user ID and no longer get an error when you re-open
a company file.
• Transfer the primary admin to another authorized Intuit user ID.
Online banking• Improved Bank Feeds for Bank of America and Citi.
• Fixed an issue where the Online connectivity icon ⚡ would sometimes
disappear on some online enabled accounts.
Intuit account sign inIntuit sign in no longer crashes.
My TimeFixed the My Time download link.
Attachment CenterAttachments are deleted from the Attachment Center without an error.
EmailMultiple statement emails are sent without error.
IIF ImportIIF files with long item names will now import without error.
Bank FeedsBank Feeds setup for Chase accounts no longer crashes.
Cash Flow reportCash Flow report now shows an accurate balance.
Report format preferencesReport format preferences are no longer lost when printing to PDF.
Merchant Service DepositsFixed: The Record Merchant Service Deposit window no longer shows a connection error.
1099/1096
  • Updated 1099-NEC process with link to IRS 2021 instructions.
  • Fixed an issue where Tax1099 uploads could fail due to invalid country code.
QBO exportThe Export to QuickBooks Online wizard completes the operation.

What's important about Release 8?

E-invoices
  • E-invoice document numbers display correctly.
  • Application error less likely to happen when you reconcile payments within a merchant service deposit.
  • Multi-user mode stays connected when you record a merchant service deposit.
E-statements
  • You can use multiple email addresses for e-statements.
  • E-statements link back to a customer.
ReportsPurchases by Item Summary report shows correct Avg Price Totals and Qty values.
File operations
  • QBB files correctly convert when you drag and drop them onto the QuickBooks application icon.
  • Company files with a forward slash in the name export to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
1099/1096 forms1099 Preference ready for tax year 2021.
CentersNew vendor shows as selected after its creation.
Issue fixesCrash log attaches to the created email on macOS Monterey.

What's important about Release 6?

User InterfaceFixed an issue where custom register colors weren't retained correctly on file upgrades.
Online bankingFixed an issue where some field data isn't copied to the account setup window when coming from the download transactions window.
Email
  • Fixed an issue where setting the default statement template while creating statements would sometimes cause an application failure.
  • Fixed an issue where text in the email template body was sometimes not copied to emailed statements.
Intuit accountFixed an issue where users are prompted for the Intuit User ID even when currently signed in.
PayrollNew payroll customers can sign up for QuickBooks Online Payroll services.

What’s important about Release 5?

QuickBooks PaymentsFixed an issue where connection to e-invoice payments would sometimes fail.
Online BankingImport transactions message now shows the number of imported transactions. 
Multi-user
  • Fixed an issue where a shared company file would sometimes not show in the server sidebar.
  • Fixed an issue where some users couldn’t access Pay Bills.
User Interface
  • Fixed an issue to correctly display the OK button while editing a group item.
  • Fixed an issue where tabbing through fields on an invoice would sometimes obscure the first line.
  • Fixed an issue where an application failure would sometimes cause windows to resize. 
Company fileFixed a sign in issue where a password reset for the Intuit User ID would sometimes not work. .
Other issue fixes
  • Fixed an application error that could sometimes occur when selecting the Community icon on the Home Page.
  • Fixed an application error that could sometimes occur while printing 1099/1096 forms.

What’s important about Release 4?

Tax 1099 NEC and MISC
  • Added support for new IRS 1099-NEC forms printing.
  • Added support for 1099-NEC processing to 1099 Wizard workflow.
Issue Fixes
  • Fixed an application failure that could sometimes occur after selecting Restore in a register during a Download Transactions workflow.
  • Fixed an application failure that could sometimes occur opening an edit item window on Big Sur.
  • Fixed an application failure that could sometimes occur using the Attachments window.
  • Fixed an application failure that could sometimes occur while opening a company file.
  • Fixed an application failure that could sometimes occur while printing.
  • Fixed an issue where a colon character in a Customer field on import could stop autofill import data.
  • Fixed an issue where tooltip help was sometimes wrong in Users and Permissions prefs panel.

What's important about Release 3?

  • Compatible with the latest macOS 11.0 Big Sur.

  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur when adding classes in the Download Transactions window.
  • Fixed a UI problem where the increase/decrease button icons were missing in list windows.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur using attachments while in multi-user mode.
  • Fixed a problem where the One Intuit ID window would sometimes show up incorrectly sized.
  • Fixed a problem where values in the transaction list panel would sometimes shift out of view.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur editing invoice line items.
  • Fixed a problem that could sometimes occur where the Download Transactions window would not close when adding transactions.
  • Fixed a problem where the No Company Open window wouldn't show offline iCloud documents.
  • Fixed a problem where the Date Picker and QuickMath would not work properly.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur trying to connect to a multi-user shared file.
  • Fixed a problem where field values in a forms window would sometimes not display correctly justified.

  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur selecting an account during invoice imports.
  • Fixed a broken link to the Help > User's Guide PDF.
  • Fixed a problem that could sometimes happen where the Payments window would not close.
  • Fixed a problem where tabbing through fields in a register would sometimes hang.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur deleting a time & cost group from an invoice.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur after closing/reopening a file.
  • Fixed a problem where the Sales Tax Revenue Summary report would sometimes not open from the Report Center.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur scrolling or clicking in Report Center after searching for a report.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur reordering and removing columns on a report.
  • Updated the content of a warning dialog displayed when deleting a Bill Payment or Paycheck from a register.
  • Fixed a crash that could sometimes occur attempting to import invalid data in an Online Banking web connect file.
  • Fixed an issue that could sometimes occur closing a company file while editing Sales Tax preferences.
