Update QuickBooks Mac Desktop

Periodically, QuickBooks Desktop software updates are available for download externally (from the QuickBooks web site) or internally (through your software). These updates, also referred to as Maintenance Releases or Patches, improve program functionality and fix known issues with the software.

You can download a new release for your version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac from the following:

  • Inside the QuickBooks Desktop program
  • Manually from the Product Updates Web page

To update QuickBooks Mac Desktop

  1. Go to the QuickBooks Desktop menu and select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop is available, click Install Update.
  3. When prompted, click Install and Relaunch. When the update is complete QuickBooks Desktop for Mac will automatically open.

To manually update QuickBooks for Mac, you must uninstall and reinstall the software.

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks for Mac.
    1. Close QuickBooks.
    2. From the Finder menu (search bar) on the upper right corner of your screen, choose Go Applications.
    3. Click the QuickBooks icon and drag/move it to the Trash.
  2. Reinstall the latest version.
    1. Go to QuickBooks Product Updates.
    2. Click [Change] to select your QuickBooks Desktop version.
    3. Click the Download button to download the installer file to your computer.
    4. Double-click the downloaded .dmg file.
    5. Drag the QuickBooks Desktop icon to the Applications folder to install.

Note: To verify the update and check the release number, open QuickBooks Desktop for Mac and press Cmd+1.

To update QuickBooks Server for Mac

  1. Select Quickbooks [year] Server next to Apple logo.
  2. Go to Check for Quickbooks Server updates.
  3. Click Install Update.
  4. Select Install and Relaunch.
