Let me share some insights about the error you're getting when opening a company file and how we can fix this, @Jholden7

The prompt indicates that there's an extra space after your company file name and before the file extension. Another cause of this error is an incorrect setup of the computer to host multi-user access.

Before we begin with the prescribed solutions, you'll need to update QuickBooks and run the QuickBooks File Doctor first.

Then, we can proceed to eliminate spaces after the company name and before the company file extension.

Here's how:

  1. Log out of QuickBooks Desktop on all machines.
  2. Open to the folder where the company file is saved.
  3. Right-click on the company file and select Rename.
  4. Choose the name of the file, then review and remove any spaces between the file extension and the name of the company.
  5. Attempt to open your company file.

If the issue persists, let's turn off hosting on each computer where QuickBooks is installed. For multi-users, the error usually indicates that one or more computers are incorrectly set up for hosting. To fix this, here's how:

  1. Go to each computer displaying the error.
  2. In the No Company Open window, choose File, then select Utilities.
  3. Confirm that the menu option Host Multi-User Access is displayed.
  4. Click the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option on any client computer displaying the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, then follow the prompts to turn off hosting.
  5. Open the problem file again. The log-in window should now display.

If the same thing happens, you may proceed to Solution 3 in this article: Error -6000, -82 or -6000, -106 when opening or accessing the company file.
