I'm here to share details about how paying credit cards work, Blair.
When using QuickBooks Payments to pay an invoice by credit card, there is typically a processing fee associated with the transaction. However, you will be charged for it every time you send the transaction, not the customer.
If you want to let your customer pay the fee on your behalf, you'll want to add the processing amount to the invoice. Beforehand, let's create an item. Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon and then select Products and Services.
- Select New, then choose Service.
- Enter the name of your service item.
- Fill out the rest of the fields.
- Click Save and Close.
Once done, add the service fee to the invoice before sending it. If you've already sent it, create a new one for the service fee.
Moreover, I've added an article to help you determine when the program adds customer payments to your bank and how to check their statuses: Deposit Speed.
Please keep us posted if you need additional assistance with this topic. We're always committed to helping you with any payment-related concerns or questions.

Hey there, dd93. I'll share additional insights regarding the processing fee.
In QuickBooks Online, the processing fee charged may vary depending on the payment method used by the customer. It's important to note that the specific processing fees and payment options available in QBO can vary based on the payment processor you have integrated with your QBO account.
For additional information regarding the fees associated with payment processing, you can check out this article: What are the fees for QuickBooks Payments? It gives you all the details about the specific fees you'll encounter when using QuickBooks Payments to process transactions.
Furthermore, you can manually include service fees in your invoices to bill your customers accurately based on the services provided. By adding service fees, you can ensure that your customers are aware of the additional charges associated with the services rendered.
I'll be around if you need more help managing invoices in QBO. I'm just a post away.

I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with 3 different departments only to find out what I just read above. It is incomprehensible to me that INTUIT cannot provide an option on the customer side of paying the invoice which charges them based upon how they choose to make payment. Hello.....2023!! I don't want to just add a fee to my invoice. That makes my fees look higher and that I choose to charge the client as opposed to the client making the decision to pay the convenience fee. I have been with QB's for almost 20 years......this is a fail!
