Welcome to the Community, lockdoctors Aberdeenshire.
I'd be delighted to share some details about how PayPal accepts card payments. Then, share an alternative method for receiving customer payments.
When a payment is received by PayPal, it will automatically sync with QuickBooks Online, and record detailed information including items sold, quantity, discount, taxes, etc. Also, the fees are also imported as an expense in your QuickBooks account.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can accept card payments through PayPal or GoCardless. The latter is a bank-to-bank payment method that uses direct debit to automatically collect payments from your customer's bank account. When a payment is received by GoCardless, it will automatically sync with QBO. Here's an article that explains in detail how to use the following feature: Get Started with GoCardless.
Furthermore, these resources provide answers to frequently asked questions about how the PayPal app and GoCardless work, as well as the benefits.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have other customer-related concerns or additional questions about receiving payments. I’ll be glad to answer them for you. Enjoy your weekend.
