T4A slip & CERB: Description warning

I just had my first client with a T4A slip showing, in box 197, the amount of the CERB he received in 2020. When I entered it, the T4A slip “Description” field remained yellow and the message said, “Slip for CERB and CRB is incomplete. Please review.” When I put a dummy amount of $1.00 on line 22 (Income Tax Deducted), the warning was gone. Of course, no tax was deducted on the CERB, only on the CRB.

T4A slip & CERB: Description warning

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community

The warning issue will be resolved in ProFile version 2020.4.0, targeted for release near the end of March, 2021. Note, this is just a warning issue and does not affect the T1 calculation and the return will be submitted to CRA correctly.

Hope this helps

End of March is too long to wait. The yellow colour is error is the same error when slip information is carried forward from a previous year and missing information, we are used-to deleting the slip with yellow colour.

Totally agree...

Exactly, when I see the yellow colour in the description field, it means it's an 'empty' slip: it must be either completed or, as you said, deleted.

...... End of March is too long to wait.

Let's put it into perspective: it could have been end of April... ;)

if you remove "Government of Canada" as issuer on top of T4A it will remove the error

Of course, if the is no description, there is no error. But if I removed the description and take a look at the T4A slip page, I won't immediately know that the client had any T4A slip, unless I scroll down. The best solution would be to eliminate the yellow warning-but I'd rather deal with it than leave the description field blank.

it CLEARLY shows up on the T1S page  which should be given to each client and should be looked at by the person doing it more so than Looking for a T4A slip page---

Yes, I always give the T1 Summary to all my clients. But I guess I have a different way of preparing tax returns.

maybe---when you do as many as I do get back to me    LOL

it's a simple fix that you want to make difficult --instead you wanted to put a FRAUDULENT $1 of income tax deducted to "solve" the problem. That sure gives clients confidence that you are willing to DEFRAUD the Government even if only for $1 :)

You are kidding, aren't you?

All I said was, "When I put a dummy amount of $1.00 on line 22 (Income Tax Deducted), the warning was gone. Of course, no tax was deducted on the CERB, only on the CRB."

I meant to point out that Profile is assuming that tax MUST be deducted on the CERB, which is NOT correct, as no tax was deducted on the CERB. I never said I WANTED or WAS GOING to use this "FIX" on my clients' returns-actually, I even NEVER thought about doing so. So don't worry, I'm NOT going to defraud the government for $1.00.

except that is exactly YOUR words but.............

This is NOT a PROFILE issue but a CRA error--you do realize that both CERB and CRB are on the same form and CRB is in fact taxed.

However if you wish to hang onto all your returns until it gets fixed you can do that. I am erasing the Government of Canada title that is not important in any way shape or form

I wonder how you are going to know your clients got CPP or EI as neither of those come with a title---LOL

T4A slip & CERB: Description warning

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community

The warning failing to resolve after CERB T4A entries will be resolved in ProFile version 2020.3.5 targeted for release early March. In the meantime the warning can be signed off. The description on slips is a helpful indicator but is not information sent to CRA with the return

I apologize for the inconvenience but hope this helps

I did that actually for the first one that I did and thankfully realized a minute later that why isn't the CERB amount showing on T1 summary.

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community

The description warning issue has been resolved in ProFile 2020.3.5 which is now available.

When reporting T4A income, notice there are two entry lines for box 197 and 200-204. If entered on the top line, with no description, the amount will be reported on line 13000 as required. If entered on the lower line the amount transfers to T90 only.

I apologize but hope this helps
